The BSE Sensex rose more than 5 percent in opening deals on Monday, led by Reliance Industries and ICICI Bank after sentiment was boosted by the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) weekend interest rate cut.
The Reserve Bank of India on Saturday cut the repo rate by 50 basis points and also lowered banks' cash and bond reserve requirements by 100 basis points each.
At 9:56 a.m., the 30-share main BSE index was up 4.96 percent, at 10,273.12, extending Friday's 8.2 percent rise. All 30 components were in positive territory.
The 50-share NSE index gained 4.67 percent to 3,020.50.
